Running the Daily Reminders Program
|
To run the reminders application, click on the reminders icon (shown on the left) that will be placed on your desktop when the Time Manager is installed. You can then enter, delete, modify and examine all your reminders and reminder alarms.
|
The Time Manager will automatically start whenever you boot your system and will in turn start the reminders program in a display alarms mode.
Finally, using the Time Manager menu, you can schedule the reminders program to run at specific times throughout the day, for example 7:45 A.M., 1:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M.
Reminders and Alarms
Use the "Daily Reminders" program to save reminders of important upcoming events and receive notification prior to the occurrence of that event by setting a "reminder alarm". For example you may be required to give a presentation at an upcoming meeting and it will take you a week to prepare. You would enter a reminder for the date of the meeting and a reminder alarm for one week earlier.

(Reminders main form shown about 3/4 of actual size)
The above picture shows the main form of the Reminders program. Reminders are entered on this form on a selectable date and time which may be the current day or any day, week, month, or even years into the future.
The above example shows a reminder to "Get ready to mail in my income tax" on April 15th. Because this reminder is of significant importance, a "reminder alarm" has been set for one month before the April 15th date (March 15th) to allow time for preparation. Whenever the program runs prior to March 15th the reminder would NOT be shown. From March 15th through April 15th the reminder would be shown in green whenever the program starts. After April 15 the alarm would be shown in red indicating that the reminder has been missed.
Reminder alarms can be deleted after which the reminder will no longer be displayed. Of course the reminder is NOT deleted but is retained as a permanent record that can be recalled when needed.
As many reminders as desired can be entered and any or all of the entered reminders can have an associated alarm.

The alarm matures on March 15th and, whenever the program starts, will be shown in green until April 16th

Expired Alarm

On April 16th the alarm expires and, whenever the program starts, will be shown in red until the alarm is deleted.

Passwords
For privacy you can set a password for your daily reminders. If a password is set all data files will be encrypted making it impossible for all but the most skilled and dedicated hackers to view your reminders. You should consider using password protection IF you include private notes in your daily reminders AND others have access to your account.
Password protection is dangerous however because, if you should forget your password, you have NO WAY TO RECOVER YOUR DATA. We recommend therefore that you avoid using the reminders password protection and rely instead on password protecting your windows user account
File Integrity
In a further effort to protect your important reminders we provide an automatic backup of your data files every time you add a new reminder. The backup file has a file extension of ".bak". If your data file somehow becomes corrupted, renaming the .bak file to .txt MAY succeed in recovering all your reminders except the last one added.
